The book Talking Hands looks like an interesting read- i’m gonna go ahead and get a copy. I’ll write about what I think about it.

Looks like it just came out 3 days ago..

Do you know of any research being done on hearing pitch perception? I am a professional trombone player and my pitch has gone bonkers. Other instruments sound sharp or flat in varying degrees making it impossible for me to tell where I am pitchwise with the other players. Listening to bands play sounds like they all tuned to a different note playing in several keys at once.Yuck!

Hi Caleb,

Thanks for checking out my site. I don’t know a lot about the research being done on hearing pitch perception. I’m almost certain its being done though.

I would recommend asking earpixie@gmail.com who was on this site the other day. Earpixie has been a professional in the hearing health field for 25 years.

My two cents? That sounds like a really difficult experience to go through. My guess is that the root of the problem doesn’t lie in the ear canal itself..but further down the line- the cognitive perception of the signals your getting. Have you had a doctor check this out?

I would check out the book Musicophilia by Oliver Sacks..he interviews several different people who have had different sorts of experiences with sound that involve some very mysterious and interesting neurological processes.

Ok, I just learned about Facebook from my son, but would you please explain to me what Yelp is?? I think you should consider becoming an audiologist . . need more males in the field and your background (hearing impaired) and your degree would really help you!!

Hello… I was just reviewing your comment on the (What Sucks… hearing aids) story. I too was amazed that someone so ill-informed would have the audacity to write such an article. I guess the column is called “What Sucks” so we should expect him to wax negative about everthing he writes about. I hate to see things like that however because it disturbs the hope for the hearing impaired that quality of life can be improved. I appreciate your website and am very impressed with the extent of your interest. Have an awesome day!!
